I need recommendations for a bottle/jar opener
#11
Fabio wannabe! I'm thinking the one in back because his hair's not spiked and his tie is crooked, so he's most likely to be straight.

I kinda like the second from the front myself, but something tells me he's not going to trail around behind me and open my bottles and jars. Pull yourselves back together ladies; this thread is about jar openers! Smile

Go to Sears, Home Depot and the like and get a flexible/strap wrench http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104...ble+wrench&sid=K-on-Sx20k061224x0000001

They're not just for butter anymore.

Take the knife by the blade and smack the heavier handle-end around the edge of the lid of the bottle/jar you'd like to open. Rotate the bottle/jar and continue smacking away at the lid 4-8 times. Now the offending bottle/jar should pop right open. If the lid still refuses to open repeat smacking the bottle, this time slightly harder and in different locations (you'll see little dents.) This has never failed to work for me.

I don't know, I thought having a Chippendale's guy following you around seemed like a pretty good solution. He can probably help you pick out a new outfit and some nice throw pillows when he isn't opening jars.

LOL! I needed this thread today. The thought of a half naked guy following me around to open jars is a mental image that I just can't help but laugh at.

I have no real advice to offer but wanted to express my sincere thanks! Smile

Imagine what would follow if the original poster wanted advice on a nutcracker instead!

I don't know about commercial jar-openers, as I've never used them. I used to row competitively though, and while we had strong hands, I often had blisters on my palms that made using my hole hand to open jars pretty painful. What I did was take a thick rubber band and wrap it a couple of times around the lid (and you can also wrap one around the jar itself to keep that from slipping in your other hand). It works just like a rubber gripper, but isn't at all awkward or hard to use. Hopefully that helps!

Thank you, dmann! I glossed over that comment by AD when reading thru this thread, and got to truly LOL when reading your post.

And, AlphaDog, this is the one I've used that I like best: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Jar..._2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1210806485&sr=8-2#productPromotions
The mechanism is similar to the rgG linked, but it's portable and just simple to use.
