Since I never really paid attention to this, I never checked out the HD-DVD demos/displays. Does HD-DVD look just as good as blu ray?

Well, the question of which is better, HD-DVD or Blu-ray, is largely irrelevant now, Pinkoos. At the moment there are only a few more titles being produced in HD-DVD format, because all the studios have decided to carry only the Blu-ray format, and hardware manufacturers are only making Blu-ray players for the most part. Blu-ray will be the high-definition media from now on, whether we like it or not.

Yeah, I was just curious if the losing format lost b/c it was not as good or if it just had to do with Sony's massive marketing campaign.

Ohh, I see. Well, I personally do like Blu-ray better, but to be honest, I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference if you had two identical TVs next to each other showing the same movie. I think the difference is slight -- one side had to lose out. Perhaps it was the marketing campaign... Sony's pretty beefy.

HD-DVD is as good in most cases. It all depends on compression, and AVC (most BR) couls be slightly better than Microsoft's VC-1 (most HD-DVDs). But if both are encoded with the same technology (like Warner's), the quality is the same. BR usually has an edge in sound, as there are more uncompressed soundtracks on BR.
