Advice about AMAZON order please
#1
I mentioned before that my amazon order got lost in the mail. Well, amazon said they will replace my item and it would ship in 2-5 weeks since it was out of stock. Cool, I don't mind waiting, I got a good price anyway and I don't need the item right away. FWIW: it was a Pentax binocular that sells on amazon.com for $50 and at BH for about $90. I got it on May 15 for $31 with free shipping. I didn't own a binocular and though one would be nice to have.

So yesterday morning I get an email from Amazon that my order has shipped. WTF??? which order? I check, sure, it was the binocular. total invoice was $0.00. Cool, maybe I'll get it this time I said.

Well, last night I came home and I found a package at my door. I could not believe, that shipped it the same day? I didn't even know that was possible. Did a little research and it turns out this was the FIRST package, it finally arrived.

Today I got the second order. OK, an a$$hole would probably stay put and don't say anything. But I not one of them; I am going to contact amazon and let them know that I will return the package, I didn't even open it. On the other hand, I am considering keeping it and paying for it, since I could make a nice gift to my dad. The question is how to approach them and make them charge my CC, or even better, if I can sweeten the deal and ask them if they can price match their own price form 2 weeks ago, in other words charge me only $31 for this second pair of binoculars instead of $50 they charge now.

Any ideas if such a deal would fly???

Me, too.

I'd try calling them to see what they say. The somewhat sad truth is that it might cost them more to try to "fix" this mess than to just let you keep the second one; at least you'd be doing it with their blessings. There is an Amazon customer service number, and there was a thread about it not long ago.

I had a similar situation at Christmas time a few years ago, ordered a book to that I intended to give as a gift under the tree, was supposed to arrive by 12/25. By Jan 2nd still didn't arrive, contacted Amazon, said that it must be lost, and that the person I intended to give it to has already left town, so I just wanted a credit.

They gave me the credit, without any problem. Then two days later the book showed up. I contacted them asking what to do with it. They said keep it.

Reminds me when I ordered a 6X9 Wacom tablet (Not Amazon). I receive it and the next day I got a second one. I called the vendor and they basically said I was wrong and they don't make mistakes.

I sold it on eBay the next week!

I send an email to them on how to proceed. I asked if I could buy the second item (if they could price match the original price) or if I should return the item.

BTW: I never had a pair of binoculars before (well, I had some made in China when I was a kid), so I may hot have a good reference baseline, but these are spectacular!

Reminds me of a few transactions that I have had over the years.

Bought a custom window from Home Depot when it arrived there were two of the exact same thing. Tried to point out to HD staff that I only ordered one, they said I got what I ordered so I should take both. I had only paid for one though, It seemed like they just did not want to deal with it and just wanted it gone.

Bought a lawn mower from sears.com, before it came in to the store for pickup it went on sale in store for less. I called and canceled the order. I got a message two days later that my order had arrived and I should come in to pick it up. I went to the store to buy it for the lower in store price and again told them that I had canceled the online order but I had gotten a call that it was ready for pickup. They checked and canceled it again. I bought it in store for the lower price and took it home. When I got my CC statement they had credited me credited me twice for the cancellation at the higher price. I called and told them and they said it would get fixed. It never was so in the end the mower was free plus about $80 in credit.

I got an email from them, they asked for my permission to charge my credit card (for the lower price!) or I should return it.

I think I am going to tell them to charge me and I'll keep the second item. Amazon is miles better than buy.com when it comes to customer service!!!
