Will these fit in an iMac G5?

I know they have heat spreaders but they are cheap and fast.....

I have read that modules with spreaders can be made to fit but is it worth trying?

This is an iMac G5 ALS (no iSight)

I'd personally advise - bad idea. We sell the right stuff for the same price - no rebate though to drop it to $40 like that Fry's deal... but those parts may not fit in the iMac and the CAS rating may cause issues as outside Apple Spec.

If you can return after buy - I guess only time to risk. Assuming they fit in the slots with those heat spreaders on them - they shouldn't hurt the machine... although, those heatspreaders there to dissipate heat and that may be a real issue in the iMac either with extra heat inside or simple fact that there is no air movement like in desktop or tower that would also keep the modules cooled.

Thanks Larry,

I did not really think that they would be a great idea just thought I would ask. I almost always get my RAM from OWC unless I get a great deal on something that meets Apple specs.

This is for my mother in laws iMac so I can put Leopard on it.
It only has 512MB at the moment

Since it's for your MIL, go for it . . . absolutely nothin' to lose . . .

G5 iMacs are notorious heat mongers anyway... if you were still sufficiently under the 3 year warranty extension, and had some way of monitoring the heat level; then it might be worth a try, otherwise stick w/ Larry's advise, or WHiiP's, and you've got it covered...

Even a few dollars more is money well spend on a known quantity. I got a 3G kit for my mini and am very happy.
