They threw in every irrelevant sub-plot and detail to try and make it "edgy"...

Miserable failure.
Showed some promise in the first half of the first part, but after than, fell down badly.

What a waste of 4 hours. I loved the original movie. It was good for its time and I loved the book. The military subplot was a huge waste of time and made the movie very confusing. A Saturday night Sci-Fi channel movie would have been better.
