Advice on used vespa
#1
guy up the street is selling a 2008 lx 50 for $2800. Thinking of offering 2300-2500. I know it 's only a 40mph ride, but I've always wanted one. looks to be in mint shape. BTW, this isn't about saving on gas ( i maybe filled my tank twice this summer since i walk or bike everywhere in this small town), it's about lust. pure and simple. Advice?

I'd ask the folks over on modernvespa.com, but those seem to be holding their value this summer. However, summer is coming to an end.

Personally, I find 150cc too underpowered, so who knows how I would get on with 50.

thanks seacrest, i just posted over there as well. i should probably resist and get something with a little more speed, but I think he needs to sell since he just bought a new harley, and I wonder how low he'd go.

Don't bother with a 50. Personally I think they're dangerous because they just have no power to get you out of bad situations or to even keep up with traffic. I would spend another $1000 and get a 150. That will treat you good on roads up to 55mph.

Hi -

I think it's a question of how heavy you are, and your typical riding conditions. Just around a downtown area, I think that a 50cc Vespa will be fine if you're under 175 lbs. Over 175 lb, and it gets a little slushy.

I just finished restoring a 1967 large-frame Vespa 125, and it pulls my 230 lb around pretty good.

Cheers, J

Why not get a real motorcycle for $3500?
