Restaurant rec. in Sac (near downtown)?
#1
I'm "stuck" in Sac visiting the in-laws and looking for a good local restaurant in the downtown or south area between laguna and the south area.

Although they have great food, I'm not interested in Scott's, Watergrill, Morton's type places. I'm more looking for a good local place of any type of cuisine other than Asian, which I eat all the time in LA. Although a good vietnamese Pho place might be tempting.

It's fargin over 100 degrees here, so I have to be able to wear shorts.

Thanks in advance.

theres no real dress code at any place

a few i can think of -- better than average -- and we wear shorts to them all the time -- i have been to all of these places more than once

downtown:
riverside clubhouse
spartos
centro (mexican)
pyramid alehouse

midtown
33rd street bistro (the one on folsom is better)
three sisters (mexican, also on folsom)
#8 best burger in the US: nationwide meats

a little farther (off howe)
zinfandell grill (lots of biz types, but ive worn shorts plenty of times)

there are more, but thats a decent list...

They've got deep fried frog's legs over at the state fair.

Thanks for the recs.

My wife's friends recommended 33rd St Bistro as well, so we'll be headed there tonight. Menu looks great.

Thanks to all that chimed in.

in the last year or so there have been 10-20 of these mid level places opening -- some, like spartos -- are excellent

there are a couple more in the slightly higher $$ range that are the best ive had anywhere

on the way back to laguna(?) stop by vics for some home made ice cream... it will be busy -- but even a kids scoop in a cup is huge
