It's still not clear how her producers and the photographer ended up being arrested when their press-credentials were apparently in order. It's possible that they were confused with rioters.

Her arrest is of grave concern because she was pretty obviously not involved in the rioting. She walked over from the "peaceful" side of the line. She was dressed nicely a was not (initially) agitated. The video of the event shows her attempting to ask them about her producer and instead of a rational response, they grabbed her, told her to be quiet and arrested her, too.

...

I'd like to have more press mingled with the protesters. Faux News is portraying all of the protesters as if they are part of a violent anarchist movement.

There was at least one violent anarchist group throwing rocks and bottles on the streets, but it's pretty obvious that the peaceful protesters who linked arms across from the convention center were not acting violently and were acting within their rights when they were gassed, beaten and arrested.

I'd also like to know what credible threat those diverse protest-groups presented that the police felt it necessary to raid their headquarters and arrest hundreds of them preemptively before the convention.

It would be nice if once in power the dems would focus on restoring habeas corpus and the rule of law... you know, that thing where you have to be a suspect in the commission of a crime before the cops arrest you and then they have to charge you, allow you to make a plea, let you consult with an attorney, have a trial... all that stuff.

Doesn't this kind of thing happen at every protest? Sometimes it hard to tell the protestors from the press or bystanders. If there is a difference. I, personally, am not buying it and consider it grandstanding.

I've never heard of her either.

I don't believe she—or any other journalist in the fiasco—was ever honestly confused with the rioters. The police corralled her coworkers, and then someone came and stripped one of them of their press credentials while the arresting officer looked on and refused to document the action. The right of the press is simply not being respected here, neither is the right of peaceable assembly. What's up with the "free speech" zones and cages? Cages?! Something is many shades of wrong in our country, and it appears intentionally so; the only question left is "who is accountable for this"?

She is an investigative journalist, an author and she has a daily syndicated radio show.

NPR audiences should know her and Nicole Salazar's names very well.

Only hippie-pinko-commie listen to NPR. That's why they haven't heard of her. freeradical certainly wouldn't be listening to that subversive stuff.

Yeah, NPR, National rePublican Radio. Listened to Talk of the Nation lately? Neil Conan is a card-carrying republican. That guy needs to be sooo fired. There is a place awaiting him at Faux Noose.

And yeah, this Amy Goodman thing (and the rest of it) is EXTREMELY WRONG and alarming. Americans and our media are too preoccupied with Brittany and Co. to even breathe a sigh of angst about it, though. This "free speech zone" crap has been slowly becoming the norm the past 8 years since, since, oh yeah, since W took office. Even the Dems had it at their convention. I am appalled.

This is how it starts, people. Losing all your rights. Welcome to the New Amerika. Let your voice be heard at the ballot box or our democracy will continue to perish bit by bit until soon enough you won't even recognize what the word really means. 1984 is closer than you think.
