1. Why is this important?
2. Why does this thread exist?
Playing politics with teenage behavior is worse than the teenage behavior. If you wonder why more good, competent people don't go into elected public service, look no further than this thread.

Why do you post to it? Why do you add to the life of this thread by bolstering the reply count? Why do you believe you're superior to the 15 or so others who posted to this thread?
How can we all be more like you?

[quote rgG]One of the sites I looked at said they were of her fiance's sister.
The third post in this thread said that.

I'll tell you EXACTLY why the thread exists and why this is such a big deal across America. It's because the Republicans have been on a We're Holier Than Thou, Thou Hast No Family Values rant for about 20 years now, and Americans are tired of having them tell us in their sanctimonious and often jack-booted way who we can have in our bedrooms, in our military, what medical procedures we can have done on our bodies...and that is just for starters.
Meanwhile, the same people spouting this crap are hypocrites themselves, witness the married senator from where was it, Minnesota who was a staunch gay rights enemy fooling around with boys in the boys' room, the rep from Florida who was anti-gay as well and turns out to be a page-boy diddler, and Bushy's flaming anti-gay, right-hand spiritual advisor guy who is married but having, gasp, gay sex AND using drugs. And those are only a few. And yeah, we all know there are offenders on the other side of the aisle as well but they aren't out espousing referendum elections on "family values" and verbally crucifying gays now are they? And if there ever were any, they would certainly not get a pass from me.
So to top off this Family Values juggernaut, we get this Palin bush-leaguer whose only seeming qualification to be VP ... is that um, Alaska is close to Russia; btw, I am fit to be the CEO of GM because my neighbor drives a Suburban! I am certain GM shareholders will agree I am a qualified choice to run their multi-billion-dollar international company!!!
But I digress. Sort of. Anyway, Palin trots out her family implying what a great example she is for the nation, CHOOSING to have her DS baby, her daughter CHOOSING to have her own baby (when in fact under Palin's wishes none of us, not even RAPE AND INCEST VICTIMS, would have a choice in the matter) -- and what a swell hockey mom she is.
But peel a few layers of this stinky onion and we find she is a callous, short-sighted person who LAUGHS at people being called bitches and fat (great Mom example, btw); she has a Down's Syndrome baby that she chose to take all of TWO DAYS of maternity leave to care for (???!!!), and she has an underage pregnant, publicly, proudly drinking daughter. (And don't scream sexism, I'd make the same comments about a father in the same situation.)
And the coup d' grace is that Palin, in her capacity as a government official, has come out AGAINST sex education (including the simple biology of STD education) and professes an "abstinence-only" doctrine. That is really where the rubber (no pun intended) meets the road in this daughter issue, people. She wants to tell us how great her "family values," and abstinence-only education works for OUR KIDS while eschewing teaching our and apparently her own kids about oh I dunno, condoms, birth control, herpes, sex, etc. When the facts show that abstinence-only education simply is not adequate. And that is, again, hypocritical. That, and the fact that she thinks after espousing all this goody two shoes stuff, she should get a pass when the crows come home to roost.
Nobody is putting judgements on the daughter, she's 17, what in the hell does she know about anything. The judgement is on Palin who is clearly unfit for high national office...and no, does not get a pass on her own and her party's own specialty: hypocrisy.

Wow. Well said. Could not agree with you more. Only thing I'd add is the absurdity of mixing religion and government. Blind obedience to dogma, based on inane ancient fables that have no context relative to current realities, is the root source of all the worst problems we and the rest of the world face. Closed minds are dangerous things.
