DirecTV pulls head out of rear, Renews agreement with TiVo, Inc.

DirecTV finally admits to its collective self what "DirecTV DVR" users have known for a long time; it f-ed up badly letting TiVo go..

NOW I can start planning a migration to HD...
Because I wasn't letting my TiVo reciever go without a fight!
If I'll be able to get a TIVO operating systemed DirecTV HD Reciever... I'll replace my DirecTV Tivo "SD" reciever.

Of course, first I need an HD TV...

Ehhhh...can't say I agree with you. Seems that for many DVR customers, TiVo has already missed the boat, and they are desperately trying to capture the folks they have been shunning with their limited offerings and out-of-whack pricing.

No one argues that their interface is superior, but these days, the difference is marginal. I used to love my SD Series 2 unit, but I gave it to my parents a year and a half ago, and to be honest with you, I can't even remember what was so special about it. I looked into the original Series 3 but balked at the price. Good thing, because I eventually switched from Comcast to DIRECTV, and if I'd purchased the original Series 3 TiVo, I'd be sitting with an $800 paperweight.

I will definitely be interested in seeing if anything ever comes of this talk, but I won't hold my breath. And it would have to be really something special to pay anything beyond a small upgrade premium.
