new boiler for hot water system - recommendations?

My plumber wants to go with the tried and true (Burnham) and I'm not against that but it sounds as if he just wants to install what he is familiar with and not necessarily explore too much beyond his "comfort zone." He's a good guy and he will do it if I recommend he check something out, but I have to do the homework. Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for in a 2,000sf house with a baseboard hot water system?

No specific recommendations about water heaters, but my general recommendation is not to ask people like plumbers to step outside their own comfort zone. If you want something different than he offers, I would recommend hiring someone who is in THAT comfort zone.

Being any kind of service provider's "first" is not a desirable position.
