Today my home will be without power for 8 hours during planned maintenance. Aside from turning off all of the electrical stuff, is there anything else that I should be very concerned about? I have a chest freezer and a refrigerator that I'm concerned about, but other than that, I'm not too concerned.

Just keep the doors of the units closed and the food should be able to ride it out...
When it comes back on you get to reset the myriad of devices to the correct time...

If you have an electric stove, be sure that nothing flammable is on the cooking surface. All too many fires occur when the power comes back on and the stove is turned on (which can happen when you dive into the basement in a REAL hurry).

You might put some of your favorite snacks and beverages in a ice chest. Freeze a couple of gallons of water and place them in the fridge area and tape the door closed as you will forget about the power out and accidentally open the door.
