Quick iPhone/iTunes question
#1
Is there any way to get iTunes to re-sort the apps on the iPhone (1st gen) ? I've got enough apps now that it's getting pretty hard/tedious to organize them, and I'd like to be able to sort by category, etc., or at the very least, re-sort alphabetically. TiA

Somebody asked that earlier and I think the answer is still-- no.

I hate that the organization falls apart after an update of a couple of apps.

RAM, yeah, I was looking for that thread, but couldn't seem to get the right search terms. Is there at least any way to re-straighten out the order, that is, get iTunes to put them all back in SOME sort of order?

Folders would be nice. Maybe in 2.2?

I have all nine screens filled with apps on my Touch, with lots of free memory to spare. I would like to be able to load up as many as memory could handle.

I believe we'll see a solution soon.

The 2.1 update fixes this by retaining app placement after update. It is still a pain once you get to 4 screens, but at least updating apps doesn't rearrange the placement any more.

I'm using 2.1, and that's not my experience. When I update an app, it's almost never on the same screen as before, let alone the same place.

No other screens are affected, just the beginning and end screens.

Same here Rick-o. 13+GB of free space. I initially d/l over 200 Apps (mainly free Apps). When I started buying Apps, they wouldn't be installed on my iPhone; just on my TiBook, due to the 9 page limitation. I've been deleting Apps both from the iPhone and computer. It seems that the easiest way to have an App load onto the iPhone is for an update to occur. App "management" sux. I'm not holding my breath that Apple will fix this mess anytime soon.

I've also been looking for a universal search on the iPhone but, I don't think one exists. There are search boxes in both Contacts and Calendar Apps but, I don't believe they'll search anywhere else. My old Treo 650 had a wonderful search tool that puts the iPhone to shame. I'm hoping an App will be written to provide this basic need. As a PDA, the iPhone is sorely lacking which, is funny as it is actually a hand held computer.
