DynDNS with a "Custom DNS" domain...?

Is anybody using DynDNS with their own domain instead of the subdomains offered under the free plan?

I have a domain registered at GoDaddy that I'd like to use to VPN in to my home network. Presently, I'm using a home.dyndns.org address for that.

It looks like I'd have to pay a $27.50/yr fee for a "Custom DNS" plan at DynDNS.com to get my GoDaddy domain forwarding to my home IP. Do I have that right? Any caveats I should know about?

Looks correct. I'm not familiar with custom hosting but i am familiar with dyndns. its been rock solid for me particularly when used in conjunction with a router based client.

Are you going to allow others to VPN into your network? If not, why do you need your own domain name? You can set up a yourname.dyndns.org as part of the free set-up. While I have only been using it for a few days, I haven't had any issue with the set-up.

Yes. I give my brother access sometimes.

I like to play. I have a domain that I'm not doing much with right now... and it's a really cool one. I thought it would be nice.

Most companies that have dynamic IP's also block a lot of ports...i.e. web, ftp, etc. Thus you wont be able to setup an easy solution. Personally, I found dyndns to be decent---but ultimately, I went a different route. I currently use Apple (mobileme) to host my domain---which isn't great (no PHP support).
