I had similar luck last year when selling my older MBP on Craigslist. I'd gotten mine really cheap a year earlier at CompUSA & sold it for just slightly less than what I paid. I then bought a new, recently discontinued, MBP on Amazon for only a few hundred more than what I paid for the old MBP. I basically got a new MBP for ~$400 out of pocket.
