emac 700/ ipod touch solution?
#1
Bought a kid ipod touch for xmas. Unfortunatly, requires 10.4 tiger (system req said g4 would work) and old emac has 10.3 panther. Apple doesn't sell tiger, available on ebay or amazon around $200 (twice what leopard goes for). Paying that much not an option, looking for cheap or free solution.

thanks

FYI - that 700 MHz eMac is also USB 1.1 so transfers between it and the iPod may be a little slow...

A Tiger installer disc should be pretty readily available via private sales for well under $200 - check LEMswap, MacSwap, Craigslist, and/or eBay. Or PM me...

USB 2.0 eMacs are generally available for $100-150, but may not include OS X 10.4

cheap or free?

buy a used PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) mac off craigslist that includes 10.4 for $50 or less. clone it to your eMac with a Firewire cable.

If you have a Windows computer, use it. I had the same problem, an eMac with 10.3. I also had a Windows computer with Vista. Downloaded iTunes onto the Windows computer. I do all my iPod loading with the Windows computer. Did finally get Leopard from Amazon.com for $110 and I have seen it for less than $100, but don't remember where. A little search might find it.

I guess I was hoping for some workaround for free. It seems like the demand for tiger on ebay, amazon, and craigslist has driven the price up. Maybe I'll look for a nice imac or macbook to replace it.

Thanks

Crap, I just sold 2 copies of 10.4 for $50 each. They don't really go for $200 on ebay do they?
