Can I delete iMovie HD and iDVD?

i'm trying to free up some space on my ibook. if all i ever do with DVDs is play a rented movie, do i need these apps?

depends upon the apps, eh. trashing neoOffice alone freed up over 300MB. at any rate, i cleared enough to get the task of the moment done but you're right - hard drive space, it goes so fast! is replacing a hard drive in a G4 iBook difficult?

Looks like a job for OmniDiskSweeper

This app is great, up until a week or two ago, it was a pay app, it was recently set free. I've benefited from using it on my laptop, I highly recommend it.

OmniDiskSweeper is another quality product from The Omni Group, it's a Mac OS X utility for quickly finding and deleting big, useless files and thus making space on your hard disks. OmniDiskSweeper makes this easy by highlighting the biggest files on your disks, and by noting which files are used by the system, so you don't accidentally delete important files.

It is.

If you're not up for an hour or more of worrisome work and careful tracking of many tiny screws then it helps to have a tech-savvy friend.

Unfortunately, the capacity of the original drives on those puppies is laughable by today's standards.

If you're not using it away from your desk all that much, perhaps the best solution is an external (FireWire) boot drive. You'd almost certainly see a big speed increase running off of a modern 3.5-inch SATA drive in a FW case.
