GREAT DAY FOR THE NFL!!

Kommissar Tagabooboo calls it quits!
Maybe his replacement will understand the importance of hiring COMPETENT officials, capable of calling a game properly and impartially. Remember Phil Luckett? One can only hope some of the recent 'rule changes' get trashed too! (imho-QB 'Down by contact' rule SUCKS!)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - National Football League commissioner Paul Tagliabue is retiring in July after more than 16 years in the job, the league announced on Monday.

Buh-Bye beeeeatch, now let's just hope you don't get a job at FEMA or the FCC!!

I still cannot get over that during his tenure he turned a long term contract into day labor. I blame Upshaw for letting the players down also. David Halberstram's "The Powers That Be" while a little dated demonstrated the ruthlessness of the owners who view the players as chattel.

Tagliabue truly only had the owners' interest at heart. I am thrilled by hearing replacements include several ex-players including Rich McKay.

How about Bud Selig? That would be a great move.

For baseball.

NFL under Tagliabu: Record TV contracts with networks paying billion dollar tv contracts, rating high, team parity due to salary cap and profit sharing makes every team viable. More details here http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/st...arelli_len&id=2377058

Compare him to the other commissioners:

David Stern: Half of NBA on pay tv ESPN due to low ratings, falling rating, lowest finals ratings ever last year.

Gary Bettman: Lockout and contract with OLN, half of teams not profitable, diluted teams due to expansion to non sensical markets.

Bud Selig: turned a blind eye to steroids, no salary cap or minimum causing the haves and the have nots to be incredibly polarized when dealing with any profit sharing. The steroid induced homer derby brought people back after the last strike.

pRON, I'm not saying the others are good either. Like Gutie noted, Selig is a hack! I wouldn't expect ESPN (ABC/Disney) or any broadcast outlet, to be negative at this point.

NFL under Tagliabu: Average 'Joe' can no longer afford to take the family to a game, much less buy a PSL. Exactly what the owner's wanted. That's a sad fact.

Bob Irsay & Jack K. Cooke are waiting in hell to thank him ::o

Tagliabu did a lot for the league, but it's too much in owners' favor. Players need more security, given how short their careers are. No guaranteed contracts? But there are in baseball? How does that work?

What am I talking about...i don't even watch football anymore...can't stand it..

i like gutenberg's idea though..
