other than ebay, is there any good place to sell new, blank, VHS and BetaSP tapes?
#1
I have some blank VHS and BetaSP tapes that I'd like to sell here at work. We haven't used them in the past 2 years and see little value in keeping them around.

Looks like I could probably get rid of them on ebay, but wondering if there would be other outlets to sell before I go that route? Craigslist isn't real active in our small-ish city, so I doubt that would yield much.

Any A/V speciality auction sites or message boards that you know of? I'll probably just default to ebay, but thought I'd check here before doing so.

Thanks

Try Mister BetaMax: http://www.mrbetamax.com/

Ummm, he's talking about Betacam SP tapes which are broadcast format tapes, not Betamovie or Betamax...

You might try the local television stations.

AFAIK (correct me if I am wrong) ALL of the "Beta" devices use the exact same format tape/cassette.

No, some beta tapes are physically similar but there are many differences.

For one, Beta SP comes in two tape sizes, S and L. The L has a running time of 90 minutes versus 40 or 60. (I can't remember it's been a while.) The S size is similar physically to betamax. The L size is the size of a hardcover book.

Beta SP is a completely different format. I believe Beta SP decks can play betamax for backwards compatibility, but not vice versa. You can't play Beta SP tapes on a Betamax deck.

Beta SP also supports a higher resolution, up to full NTSC 720x480. Betamax only supports between 300-400 lines.

Digibeta, another member of the "beta" family, is a completely different tape and different format. After digibeta, Sony smartened up and dropped "beta" and introduced the new tape in this line as HDCAM.

Very different beasts, which happen to look the same.
