We have a LOT of coyotes in our neighborhood - neighbors who had cats that INSISTED on going out built a "habitat" under their deck after one of the cats went missing.
The cats had about a 10' x 12' space with grass, bushes and logs to climb on and a cat flap that allowed them in and out at will - but they were entirely safe from the coyotes and raccoons. The caught birds and mice and voles that were stupid enough to venture into the enclosure, but I sort of put that to a wildlife darwin award - if you are stupid enough to go into the lion's den, don't be surprised if you are killed.

We lost a cat 16 years ago to a coyote. Well, we assume so, because four went out and three came back. Two of the survivors with big bites on their buttocks. The survivors (two are left) are garage kittehs. They sneak out and sneak back in. If they hear a coyote, they hide in their kitteh house.

Its a tough life out there for creatures living near urban environments. And it's rough on domestic pets to share that environment.
Here's on that tried to "mark" me out of "his" territory via whizzing (Mt. Diablo/Walnut Creek). I chose not to pee back at him. ![]() ![]() |
