I believe that this was a contract worker who took a camera to work and photographed a ton of Apple computers being unloaded at MS' headquarters. He then posted them on the Web. MS fired him because of "security issues".

their stock price started to climb, and they are a far more "public" company, open to far more scrutiny from the media in general than they were a decade ago?

Why is everyone on Apple's case about this? If I had an employee admit that he was flirting with the Fedex deliveryperson while he put customers on hold I'd can him on the spot too!

Kudos to the unnamed VP for putting customers first!!!

His story was so "over the top" that I presumed he had made the situation up for his poem.

I certainly would have done my best to verify this before I fired anyone.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

That's easy enough to do...simply check his phone logs. Remember, it took two days to fire the guy, not right "on the spot" so they probably did check his phone logs.

Yeah--and the people who are here today spent plenty of time lambasting Microsoft for how they treated that guy.

They acted as if their precious Apple would never do any such thing, and used the situation as fodder for blasting Microsoft.

As they say, people who live in glass houses...

The problem is that you are assuming that Apple or any large corporation for that matter, gives a damn about their employees. They don't and never will. Maybe 30 or 40 years ago, but not today.
