Annoying Camino problem
#1
Has anyone besides me had this problem, and if so, know of a fix?

When downloading stuff with Camino (I'm using the v1.0 non-beta), I get a spinning beachball both at the beginning and the end of the download. The beachball can actually last quite awhile, so it really interrupts the browsing experience. Safari doesn't have this problem, so I'm reasonably sure it's not a system-wide issue. I don't recall when this first manifested-- I'm sure Camino hasn't always been doing this-- so I'm suspicious the problem might have cropped up with one of the recent versions. (For a long time, I was using 1.0a1 with no problems-- switching back to this version unfortunately doesn't seem to fix it, so I wonder if some pref file has gotten corrupted or something.) Otherwise, Camino seems to be working fine...

Switch to it's sister, Firefox.

No, I don't have that problem using Camino 1.0 (non-beta) on a MDD 1.25Ghz, 10.3.9. Sorry, I don't know of any fix for your problem. Maybe you could try reinstalling the program.

The only major problem I have is the browser crashing occasionally when I go to close the pop-up window after playing a Windows Media Player feed. I really like the speed and look and feel of Camino, so I'm willing to put up with it.

I hate FF-- switching is not an option

Have tried reinstalling the app, but it hasn't helped... I'm guessing I need to trash some prefs files...

I get this occasionally, when I do I clear cache, clear cookies, clear history and cleanup the downloads. This always seems to work. I get it alot less now that it is out of beta and I set my history to 2 days.

I agree that Camino is a better fit than FF, for me at least.

Wow!

Thanks, birdmanjeff! That seemed to do it! (I think the most important part of your solution was to remove all the completed downloads-- when I did this, I actually got another quick beachball, as I had TONS of them...) Voila! Problem fixed.

Edit: where is the setting to control how many completed downloads to keep track of? Obviously I don't really need this set to infinity...

I just noticed under the Camino menu (just to the right of the Apple on the far left side) is an option to "Reset Camino". If you click on it, it says:

Resetting Camino will erase your browsing history, empty the cache, clear downloads, clear all cookies, and clear all site cookie permissions.

Passwords saved in your keychain are not removed.

You cannot undo this action.

You can then click on a "Cancel" button or a "Reset Camino" button. Nice feature.

The option to automatically remove completed downloads (like Safari has) is scheduled to be added in v1.1.
