Fast NiMH recharger...where to buy?
#1
Any good places to buy a rapid recharger? Any things to avoid? I want a rapid recharger because my boy just eats batteries with his gameboy...even 2300 AA's goes too fast.

Eating batteries? Is the boy depressed? Maybe he needs more lithium in his diet.

I am going to get either this or this Some places sell the second one for over $40. Either will do all 1.2 volt and 9 volt replacement batteries, and have a separate charging circuit for each battery, so they can have various charge levels. Can't do that with most chargers.

If you order from here, snag a PRAM battery cheap (as a spare or for diagnostic uses) search for 14250,

To be fair...his sister uses batteries for her gameboy as well. Thanks for the link...any particular charger better than the rest?

teach him to be patient.

if you only charge AA and AAA, then get an Energizer 30 minute charger, it's about 20-25 bucks at most stores (Target, Office Depot, etc). It's decent, 4 separate circuits, fast enough for my needs, and after all your boy needs to learn to be patient (sorry to repeat tis point but it is the most important after all)

Patience in a 6 year old? I didn't know there was such a thing. ;-)

I have a fancy MaHa NiMH charger from thomasdistributing.com, but when I was at Target (my wife works there) a couple of months ago, I found the Energizer 10-Minute Rapid Charger for $19.95 alone, or $29.95 with a 4-pack of 2500Mah NiMH AA Energizers and 2 AAA 850Mah's. Dang thing must put out 4 Amps+, and will actually charge 2500Mah AA's to 90% of capacity in 10 minutes or less, then peak them in another 10 if you leave them in there.

I couldn't resist the bargain, as we get 20% off using our Target VISA and our Employee Discount--I find I've been using the Energizer more than the fancy MaHa Charger lately.
Target also has an excellent selection of 2500Mah AA's at decent prices, so you don't have to pay shipping from the battery companies. I especially like the DuraCell 2500Mah AA's for $9.95 for a 4-pack. I've been using them in my Apple BlueTooth Keyboard & Mouse, and have been getting excellent run time.

90% in 10 minutes? That is like kicking a man in the nuts at 3 am just to wake him. I wonder how long they will last?

(the batteries or that man's nuts...you figure it out)

I have one of the super-fast chargers from Amazon when a deal was posted a while back.(Duracell 30min Charger) It's fantastic! A couple older no-name batteries have bit the dust but all the rest have recharged w/o problems and generally in less than 15 minutes. It has a fan, status lights and shuts off when the battery is charged. Charges 1 to 4 batteries at a time.

well, that fan sure as heck is a good idea. That explains how they keep the heat down. Now what they really need are some temporary heat sinks to snap on those batteries while charging.
