Microsoft patches 34 security holes, many critical
(AP) – 2 hours ago
REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft Corp. issued a record number of security patches for its software Tuesday as part of its regular monthly update.
The software maker plugged 34 holes and designated most of them "critical," Microsoft's most severe rating. Among them are fixes for Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and even Windows 7, which doesn't go on sale to consumers until Oct. 22 but has been in use by early testers and software developers.

Windows 7 has actually already been released. I'm using it currently. I downloaded from our MS Licensing web page. It works rather well.

Seriously. It is OK. It doesn't completely suck. It is almost as good as Jaguar.

i used the Windows 7 RC for a while and it was much better than Vista. Runs fast and has some very nice features. My main computer is a PC and my laptop is a mac. Will be upgrading to Windows 7 next week with my free upgrade disk from Best Buy.

I've been underwhelmed by Windows 7 so far. Really seems like Vista 2.

It does?

"According to iolo's tests, Windows 7 starts up 42% slower than Vista -- one minute, 34 seconds versus one minute, six seconds... Other tests, however, have echoed iolo, and showed that in some cases Windows 7 does boot slower than Vista. PC World, a sister publication to Computerworld , for example, benchmarked the new operating system as starting about 10% slower than Vista when 32-bit versions of the two were compared... iolo also said its tests indicated that Windows 7's startup times, like Vista's, degrade over time... By the end of a simulated two-year period, Windows 7's startup times increased more than 330%."

"In our extensive PC World Test Center evaluations comparing the two, we found an increase in speed, though the overall improvement wasn't dramatic... The verdict? Windows 7 makes some performance strides over Vista, though in some cases we saw no clear-cut winner, and in one area Windows 7 lagged considerably behind its predecessor."

BTW, Vista also got rave reviews when it was released. What's up with that?

That is one of the big problems with windows; that it craps all over itself.

Forget Windows 8, go to Windows Patches - just skip the operating system install and go straight to Windows Patches.
