SOUTH of the border?!.....so NBC cancelled 'Southland' but....

...might be picked up...1st TNT was interested...now another network.....

John Wells: 'Southland' in play at two networks

Southland" may have another suitor in addition to TNT.

Warner Bros. TV, which produces the drama, has been shopping the series since its abrupt cancellation by NBC earlier this month, and TNT (which like the studio is part of Time Warner) has been touted as the front-runner to land the show. But according to executive producer John Wells, another network has also expressed interest.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Wells called members of the "Southland" cast last week to keep them up to date on the show's fate. He didn't name either of the outlets, the paper says.

The show, which stars Ben McKenzie and and Michael Cudlitz as LAPD beat cops and Regina King as a detective, had filmed six episodes of its second season before NBC pulled the plug. If it goes to a cable channel, it's likely that its new home will combine those six episodes with the seven NBC aired in the spring. Any new episodes beyond the six shot for this season would likely depend on ratings performance.

Yes. I believe that is the corporate mantra for all network execs.

I think NBC thinks it can take a break now that it's golden boy Jay is on every night. I THINK that they have just abdicated all creative ideas to other networks.

My prediction? Jay's gone by this time next year. What they'll put in his place beats me.

They're less interested in spending on scripted television. Comcast is exploring purchasing them. That would be the network and Universal Studios. I'm sure that will make things better. When media consolidates, special things happen.

My prediction is the exact opposite. I think the other 2 broadcast networks are going to do something similar five nights a week, either a "news magazine" or a reality show of some sort, anything except original dramas. It's all going to go downhill at ten o'clock in my opinion, and Leno is going to end up looking good in comparison.

If I wanted to be a media mogul (and I do not, by the way) I'd started a cable network called SCN: The Second Chance network. We'd pick up shows developed and dropped by the other networks. Every now and then we'd put together a movie featuring stars needing a second chance.

Southland would be a great get. I haven't seen it, but the ratings were pretty solid for the couple tease episodes, and critics were on board. I'm reminded of how lukewarm NBC was to ER at first. They thought it had no chance against Chicago Hope.

There's a reason NBC is in last place.

:agree: However, Leno was number one on late night up to the day he left (I believe). I think NBC gave him the 10 slot to keep away from ABC. I still think it's possible that they could kill Nightline (despite it's healthy ratings), bump Kimmel back a half hour and sport late night Leno who would crush Conan. The Mouse likes to win.

as predicted back in May... http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1...msg-724139

From the network that killed:
Homicide >> The Corner then The Wire on HBO
JAG >> went on to great success @ CBS and spun off NCIS, et al
Medium >> to CBS, apparently doing OK
My Name is Earl >> possibly to TBS/TNT?
etc, etc.

but they give you 5 nights a week of Leno???
