So - think there's any way these pilots are NOT getting fired?

Years ago a relative had a private plane and pilot (really good looking guy and nice). I was flown from New Orleans to Houston (relative was back in N.O). Pilot asked me to dinner to a very trendy Mexican Restaurant. While waiting for dinner at the bar, the Pilot did 4 shots of Tequila in a row, and ordered a pitcher of Margaritas. After about 10 minutes of trying to talk to this guy, I did a shot of Teguila, went to the Hostess, called a cab, and left that guy in the bar without a word.

I called my relative, and told him I would not let that guy fly my plane home tomorrow, or ever again. He was fired promptly. A year or so later he was flying (drunk) for someone else and went into restricted airspace in D.C., where he was arrested upon landing.

Why do these weirdos always fly for Northwest?

In the industry, that airline is known as NorthWorst.

It was cloudy so not easy to know where you are as a passenger.

i can believe they were distracted by a heated discussion for 10 - 15 minutes. Once on a business trip I and another colleague were so engrossed in our "business disagreement", we overshot our exit and went another 30 miles before we became aware. Did we feel foolish!

But did you have over 100 people in the back seat?
Difference is that in a car you have "back-seat drivers" who will let you know you missed the exit, or any other mistake you make. Not easy for the 100 people in the back on an airplane to be "back-seat drivers".
