OWC NASPerform Question

I purchased the OWC NASPerform over the weekend when it was on sale ($15) for the sole purpose of putting it in the DMZ of my home network. I thought this would be an easy way to retrieve a file from my home network. I could remote into one of my Mac's via LogMeIn on my iPhone, copy the file to the NAS and download to whatever computer I needed, anywhere. A quick and dirty FTP if you will.

Turns out, this little bugger doesn't use NAS technology per se. It uses a proprietary method that does not use a TCP/IP connection and therefore has no IP address assigned to it by the router. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? I don't want to connect it to a computer just to get an IP.

I don't have an answer to your questions, but rather a question of my own. Does this box need software installed on every machine to access the drive? Or is it easier than that?

Needs software installed on EVERY machine you intend to use it with.

You do have to install software on your Mac but you won't mind. Your DropBox folder works like a regular Finder folder. Put something inside and you've also just uploaded it. Got another Mac? Install DropBox on it and your uploaded file is now automatically downloaded to it too. And you can snag files from web browsers for computers that aren't yours. And there's an iPhone app I think.

Sounds like it might use Network File System, port 2049.

There are mini webservers, this is the first one I found in a search.

Some just have a SATA port on one side and a RJ-45 on the other.
