The Cats Aren't Eating

Have you been watching the debates and cursing ?
Some cats can be pretty sensitive.

I have been known to yell (or applaud), but try to keep the cursing to a minimum. If I watch on the couch, Liza often comes by to keep me company, but with no ice-cream dishes to lick, eventually gets bored and wanders off.

Both cats came to lick bits of the dog's canned food (which he gets mixed with kibbles), which they like, but didn't eat much. Still not touching their dry food. But I think they are getting back to normal. The last few days they weren't showing up at all for Ali's dinner.

Update: Between 9 and 10 PM is the dog's 'Bone Time' (used to be more than one dog, but no longer). The dog gets 'milk bones' and a chew flip or two; the kitties know to come at Bone Time, and they get Meow Mix or some such commercial cat pellets as treats (as opposed to their regular ration of Pro Plan kibbles (the 'urinary tract health' kind).

So tonight they both came down at Bone Time, and were eager to get some treats, which they ate—not a huge quantity, but more than the last few days for sure. They also had some scraps of the salmon that we had for dinner. So they both seem to be getting their appetites back, though they have not gone for their Pro Plan kibbles yet, and don't seem very interested in the canned cat food my wife got for them—a real treat, we would have thought. Ali the dog loves it, though!

Here they are eating: Liza is the grey, quiet longhair; Rocky is the chatty white one. Sorry for the lousy iPhone pic.

See, they are eating!

PS No vet as yet. We can afford it, Gene; but it would be really traumatic for the kitties, so I won't subject either to it unless really necessary. We still think it was a virus.

I'm so glad that there's been an improvement!

I know what a traumatic experience it is to see your beloved companions suffering and not to know what you can do for them.

I'll be watching for a follow up and thanks for posting a picture of your kitties.

Have you changed food, or did your dry food maker perhaps push a new flavor or formulation? Took us about a month to get our 8-year-old cat to figure out he liked the new canned food we bought him after years of dry food.

I'm wondering if Pro Plan did something to the dry cat food we have used for many years. The cats are eating the dry Meow Mix 'treats' now but not the Pro Plan. I think they had been sick, because for a few days they weren't eating anything. I'll just give them both for a while and see how it goes. I think they are still recovering from whatever-it-was.

UPDATE: The kitties are back to normal. They are eating the Pro Plan, though not a lot still. I may try a different kind. We started this variety ("Urinary Track Health") maybe 10 years ago when Liza had an infection, and it has done well by them.

Thanks for all the concern and advice.
