Shelby Releases Hold On Obama Nominees
#1
Shelby wants the tanker and the new FBI explosives center to be built in Alabama. Senators frequently block individual appointments, but Shelby's blanket hold was unusual.

Now that he has gotten Obama's attention, Graffeo said, "Sen. Shelby has decided to release his holds on all but a few nominees directly related to the Air Force tanker acquisition."

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Friday, "If you needed one example of what's wrong with this town, it might be that one senator can hold up 70 qualified individuals to make government better because he didn't get his earmarks."

I wonder what sort of legislative bitch-slap he's earned for his state by this very public maneuver ? Usually this sort of stuff is always quietly done under the table.

I expect that in the end it will cost his state and his party more than he gained.

"Now that he's gotten Obama's attention..."

Is that really what he wanted? File this under "Be careful what you wish for".

Maybe he just wants to be invited to the WH for a beer.

I'm glad to see him drop it - pressure or not, but the whole process of the tanker is
so tainted that the military (Gates) decided to punt it to the next administration.

Little did General Gates know that he would also be the next administration.

So we still are at a deadlock - lose Boeing union jobs with the taint of leaked specs hanging over it
or give the lower paying non union jobs to Alabama & the cream to the French.

It's a FU'd system however you look at it and Shelby is just the face of it this time

that won't happen.

teapartiers aren't anti-government, if the government is a red state.
