I hate the misuse of the word "hero", too. Reagan started that when he called those marines who were blown up while asleep in their barracks "heroes". Not to demean their service to the country, but calling them heroes cheapens its meaning when referring to people who truly acted heroically. Next thing, anyone who died was called a hero and now anyone who even serves is called a hero. The word means nothing now, it's like those sports events where every child gets a trophy just for showing up.

I believe they call that hero worship. We are so desperate to find SOMETHING good about Iraq and Afghanistan. So anybody who goes there is an automatic hero.
