Insight about AT&T data network and iphones
#1
This article from ars http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2010...rriers.ars suggests that the problem with AT&T is not really network capacity so much as it is configuration. Apple's choices to maintain battery life by having each data session disconnect, then reconnect means that the signaling channel is overloaded by constant refresh requests. The article points out that Europeans have not had the same problems that US users have experienced.

I think this might be good news: they will likely fix this flaw in the deployment of LTE. The iPad might actually function!

Are you suggesting that something Apple specified is sub-optimal and that Steve might be WRONG on an issue of technology?

No answer?? I THOUGHT SO.

Hmmph.

Yeah, without LTE, the iPad is doomed.

What a maroon.

I don't have data problems with mine as far as I can tell, I think it's where people with problems live. So it might be configuration too but it's also combined with to many people in that area.

Agreed.

At Macworld, both phone and data performance were subpar for me. Tons of 'Phones in one area really affected performance. Texts squeaked through, though.

Normally I have a decent signal and data is no problem. It's just disappointing that at&t hasn't seemed to improve their network in the SF area, at least enough to accommodate Macworld traffic.

The AT&T network has its biggest problems in NY and SF. Remember that in NY they stopped sales for a period. User surveys suggest that AT&T is struggling with data provision.

Gimme a break.

I think they withheld the camera from the 'pad because of network concerns, and without some investment the network is not going to support the forecast data volumes. I was surprised to learn that the network problem may be a configuration issue and not fundamental to bandwidth available. Thought I'd share.
