syncing folders across a network

Hey Guys,

I'm using two computers at work. I recently discovered that one can recognize the other on the network (don't know why but I can't get the "other" one to recognize the first!). I have some files that I need access to on both computers. I could use the idisk, but this is rather cumbersome for files that I access all the time. What would be ideal is to have the folder on both computers but have them synced so that if I change a file on one that it's changed on the other. Is this possible?

first, you should really figure out why one machine can't see the other. past that, use dropbox http://www.dropbox.com/

Dropbox is pretty neat, but are there any issues with using it to back WORK stuff? Should I worry about sensitive material?

I do have an idisk, which could function the same, but i've had some issues with some files, and I'm a little nervous leaving everything on the idisk. I'd still want a backup.

There are many tools. You can script up an rsysnc shell program. Or you can use something like ChronoSync.

i'd recommend separating your backup and file sharing concerns.

I second the DropBox suggestion. Don't worry about security with them, any more than *any* 'cloud app' (iDisk included). And remember to use a strong password.

A strong password has at least 8 characters, mixed case, at least one number and one punctuation mark...
