Too long to be effective - before losing interest, I just concluded that the guy does not like booze, cigarettes, or meat, and should move to a West Coast commune.

He complained about the ADHD—ness of video games and other things in Japan. It appears that there's a bit of that here @MR as well. I'm about 1/4 the way through and find the article fascinating.

To achieve a bit of real understanding about something which is foreign to you, it does take a lot of time and exposure, and this length of this article is great for that.
