F/U: New capacitor didn't fix heat pump

I bought a 40/5, 3-blade, 440V capacitor at an electric shop and it didn't help. An electrician in the shop said it would very likely work. So, is there a little obvious thing to check before I call in help? I have flipped and double-checked all of the breakers, reset the thermostat, and checked for obvious loose connections.

Since you mentioned in the previous thread that trying to start the fan moving with a stick did not work, unlikely it was the capacitor in the first place. Bad connection to the motor, or the motor has gone bad is what I would say.

Open winding in the motor, especially if it doesn't hum or give other indications of trying to start. But don't toss that cap. I vote for just replacing the motor -- usually not that big a job, and most of them are under $200 (although my new blower fan motor cost $800 -- yikes!)
