Backup and restore...
#1
I am going to be traveling for three weeks and was thinking of doing a clean reinstall of osx (mainly to get rid of work files and apps). When I get back, I would do a restore on the drive. Am I right, that I need to use something like Carbon Copy Cloner? I'm using Time Machine on a daily basis but I don't think that handles this kind of thing, can it? Thanks for any info and comments.

I'd recommend SuperDuper - the free version will do what you want: http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/S...ption.html

Why would you wipe your startup drive before you leave and then restore it when you get back?

You think it's not secure?

Would your backup/clone be more secure?
