OWC Modbook extended warranty?
#1
Does anyone know if you can purchase an extended warranty on a ModBook after the initial purchase? I bought one used and it has a few months left on the original warranty and I would love to extended it out another 2 years. Other than the pricing for when you purchase a new one, I don't see any way to add an Applecare like option after the fact. I sent an email to Axiotron but have not received a reply.

you got the Super iPad... how do you like it? (other than obviously enough to want to keep it for at least another two years...)

It is pretty fun. I wouldn't call it a Super iPad, the market is completely different. The screen only works with a stylus, touching it with your fingers doesn't do anything but leave fingerprints. The screen is much more sensitive and accurate than the iPad. You can draw very thin very straight lines in Photoshop or Illustrator. It really is marketed and designed for graphic designers.

Typing on it is a bit awkward, but still very usable. You can always attach a keyboard and mouse if you are at your desk. There is some handwriting recognition/graffiti type software that works pretty well. I couldn't get to the point where it always worked for me, but I didn't try it that long. I think it would be usable for taking notes in a meeting and being able to freehand stuff as well for sketches.

My wife uses it primarily for illustrations and coloring. Works great, no complaints what so ever about the functionality. It has GPS built in, I've been meaning to get a mount for the car and some software to see how well that works.

Square trade isn't going to work for me. They go by purchased price, not fair market value. I paid significantly less than the $2000 that they cost new. I need replacement value coverage that will get me a new unit if something fails, not just to get my money back out of it.

Better than nuthin'.

Homeowners insurance maybe?

Is there any kind of insurance that will give you back more money than you spent on something?

Auto insurance? I've made money on most cars I have owned. I made a couple grand on the last car I bought. My Suburban is down to costing me $400 after the incident with the hit and run. Market value is around $3000 on it. I'll make a nice profit when I go to sell it.

Renters insurance(at least in MN) can be purchased for either replacement value or depericiated value. One is much cheaper, but you would get much less in the end.

I pretty much make sure that any major purchase I buy, I can sell in a year or two and still make a decent profit.
