MacBook Pro battery losing charge
#1
Hi there
I have a Santa Rosa Macbook Pro 15. The battery was recently replaced under Applecare because it won't hold a charge (dropped 100%->65% in 6 hours) but the problem persists (awake from sleep). And suggestions about where to start with troubleshooting the problem. I'd rather not reinstall osx.
Thanks

How many cycles are on your battery. Is there any possibility they didn't replace your battery with a new one?

Did you run the Apple Hardware Test?

The system profiler shows 1 cycle. I'm pretty sure that it was a brand new battery, it had the the cello wrap around it and I saw them open up the box at the genius bar. Hadn't thought to run hardware test, but will do it.

charge it 100%, take it out, wait 6 hours, put it back.

Does it show 100%? then it looks like there is a defect in your MacBook which drains the battery when connected. Tell them to replace/repair the MacBook, not the battery.

When the battery drained was the MBP off or asleep with the lid open?
If the latter, I believe that is normal. That's what happens to my MacBook and also to my daughter's MacBook. I think WiFi and Bluetooth keep running thus draining the battery. If you want it to really sleep, you need to close the lid. If it was off, follow space-time's advice.

Thanks, I'll try the suggestions starting with the hardware test and pulling the battery.

Should the macbook pro drop to 96% of charge in 3-1/2 hours? The laptop was attached to the magsafe adapter, shutdown and then disconnected. The lid was closed. Started up it showed the 96% charge.
