PC or Mac for Wife?

I thought eClinicalWorks EMR was web-based. Must it run under Windows?

The eCW 'thin' client is more or less web-based (relies on Apache Tomcat on the server) but also requires IE (and, for letters, M$ Word). It won't run on OS X, and it doesn't run in a browser. eCW does now offer an iPhone/iPad app, but AFAIK that has very limited functionality.

Can you drop a faster CPU into that Optiplex? Going from a Pentium D to a C2d would make a huge difference.

Maybe get her a new PC since they are dirt cheap and a ipad to play around with away from the desk? That is likely to still be less than the iMac.

I would agree to get the smallest form factor PC for her, but only if you could hide the ugly thing
inside of a cleaned out Smurf case, so you wouldn't have to see it.

I'd also change the wallpaper to include something like Ballmer being speared by Olympic javelin throwers.
FLAMING javelin throwers.

Yeah... that would make it all sort of come together.

PLUS - you could add a drive, make it a dual booting Hackintosh, and she could at least enjoy using
a "real computer" when she wasn't working in the application you mentioned.

Perhaps a Mac game where Ballmer is speared by Olympic javelin throwers who throw flaming javelins.

Jimmy, my wife wouldn't know who Ballmer was. To her, a computer is just a tool, like any other appliance, except generally more annoying.

The little Opti lives under her desk, and is actually kinda cute, if you look for it. It's one of those rounded ones (GX240) that are designed to be used flat on their sides, but then someone thought better of it and included a stand to make it a tower, so the tray-loading optical drive (which doesn't work) comes out vertically—but hey, the iMac's is vertical, too (just not a tray, thankfully).

Well... you need to initiate Mrs. Lynn on the Dance Monkey Boy video as well as "Developers" so she
can feel the burn of hate we all do when he shows his fat, bald, sickening face - and hope that the next
round of East Euros that he goes to speak to have better aim with their eggs!
