I like the dating and event function that iPhoto pulls from both the date of the import as
well as the dates on the photos themselves, and separates them. Makes sorting through
a few hundred digital shots taken over a month or two, on multiple days, very easy.

Flash drives and CDs are temporary storage.
You really should back them up (if you haven't already, then disregard) onto another, different media.
That is, if they're important.

I have two 2.5" USB drives. That is suffice as a backup, no?

I don't think that flash drives and CDs are any more or less "permanent" that a Hard Drive.

heh,
that's my #1 gripe with iphoto
can't stand the limitations on the
importsorting capabilities.
course, I preferred the original 'roll of film' meme .......
