Need schooling on TIVO and digital cable
#1
within the last few months i got an HDTV (thank you for the info, forum) and i guess Comcast switched to digital transmissions in my area. the TV QAM gets all the cable channels i used to get - seems like more than i used to get, in fact. the TIVO only gets most of the limited basic cable channels which is all i pay for btw thanks to a Comcast snafu years ago that gave me expanded basic while i only pay for limited basic.

this has not been of concern until Merlin came back on scifi and i'd like to TIVO it. my brother says my TIVO II can't receive digital signals. what level of TIVO does?

Any High Defination capable TiVo (Series 3, HD, Premiere), BUT there may not be guide data for Clear QAM channels if they don't line up with the channel guide data TiVo has. http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/298

High Def TiVo's are best used with OTA or CableCards (which will probably require a full digital package subscription).

Have been reading lately about surprising improvement people see using an antenna for local digital TV vs compressed version via cable.

If not for internet - that's all I'd have for TV. Then again, tomorrow will make first time watching TV
since election night (to watch Steelers). And even that's a 50/50 prospect when I can watch the little
ball move along the grid instead via Yahoo!

Tivo can't remap clear QAM (moxi can)

You either get a cable card or do manual recording.
