First time to use Mac the Ripper! Dambit it's slow.

You got that right. Try dropping 7 or 8 HD Clips into Toast and
burn a DVD at best quality. I usually let my Dual 533 do
that overnight and by the next morning it's ready. They usually
turn out nice.

Get a MacPro so you can use PC copy software. Beaucoup great and fast programs that beat Mac. However, there have been times when Ripper will Rip and Popcorn will not verify yet the DVD still plays. Nice to be able to use both sides of the coin when one fails.
