How did Obama impose wage freeze on public sector employees?

Surely they had collective bargaining rights, right? Don't remember any marches on Washington either. Walker looks like a pussycat.

You mean Federal employees? Federal wages and benefits are determined by congress. Federal employee unions do not have any bargaining rights.

Not sure why you think Walker looks like a pussycat.

Pam, actually many Federal Employees DO have some collective bargaining rights. Wage and Benefits for job classifications aren't there per se, but the actual assignment of personnel to classifications, advancement, certain work rules, etc..... yes, those ARE bargained, in some cases, in some areas.

Which unions ?

http://www.afge.org/
http://www.nffe.org/
http://www.nteu.org/
Among others. Here's OPM's total listing
http://www.opm.gov/LMR/html/unions.asp

In my past (defense) career, I worked with many different Federal Employees. Some of their union job rules were among the most byzantine and foolish, and far outstretched the assuredly complex job rules of the UAW and AFL-CIO. HOWEVER... I found that the actual Federal Regulations are far and away the WORST in terms of forcing inefficiency and stupidity,

In short, it's not the Unions that make the dumbest rules. It's Congress.

Ed:
Realizing I did not address the original posting... Dakota, the majority of Federal Employees are not represented by a Union. The information you used to base your theories on is incorrect. A bit of research from non-biased sources would have told you that. Again... you don't like the waste in the Federal Government ? Tell your Congresscritter to change the laws that force waste and stupidity. Don't beat up on the people that have to perform under those laws.

Personally I pity Federal Employees. Working under all those interlocking laws and rules would drive me insane.

Yeah, I knew there were a few exceptions. It seemed pointless to address those.

BTW, from my federal experience the largest amount of waste comes from eliminating civil servant positions and instead contracting the work out. It does not save money and there is a loss of efficiency and corporate knowledge. But, it makes the buddies of some congressmen happy.

Pam,

That's called privatizing.
Privatizing is the answer to everything.
Government is the answer to nothing.

Please try to keep up.

I'm trying! But as a taxpayer the waste pisses me off.

You are interested in facts? Here is one. Obama with great fanfare froze the salaries of Federal workers. Did he "collectively bargain" with anyone? No. The poor souls heard it on the news. The irony is that the same person whose troops have no collective bargaining rights is running around accusing others of "assault" on unions. Walker at least is keeping bargaining on salaries, which Obama does not offer.

One more thing. If Obama had an iota of evidence that going after unions is unpopular, he would have put on his running shoes and personally appear in Madison. The chicken that he is, he is standing back waiting to see how things play out.
