Here I am trudging along through Roman history when they talk about (matter-of-factly) Procopius, a scholar who kept two historical diaries. One he felt he could publish, and another that assuaged the emperor and came to light later.
Seems he wrote of seeing the emperor shape-shift, never eat, never rest. His words refer to a demon.
Shrug - I thought it was interesting. In case you never heard about, as I had not.
