Don't change a hair for me

Oh, and thanks for contributing to that small sample of threads, too!
I enjoyed that. As many have already pointed out, fragmenting dealmac took took it from a recoverable spin to a nosedive. A lot of folks here like to make fun of it declaring it dead, when it isn't. They can't let bygones be. There are a lot of posts here that I'd obliterate once I was benevolent dictator of the world and forums. Misleading subject lines- and ego posts would be the first to go. Same with posts that throw the first stone. Oh, and stupid posts as well. Web logging posts would not be permitted. But- that not being the situation, I pick and chose the threads I read. The Ignore button is handy for problem posters. I'd like to see such a "button" for threads. Click on the triangle to the left of the OP and the thread truncates, just like a folder of files in OS X. This would make it easier to ignore the posts and whole threads you don't want to read. As N-OS says, it is what it is. Tolerate what you can, ignore what you can't, move on if you want. Some have left, none that I miss, that I can think of. Charlie™ never made it over here (that I know of) in the first place, and I miss his posts. Like the children we are, we get along when we can, squabble when we don't, get over it if we can, and take our ball and go home if we can't. Subforums are a cure worse than the disease, if dealmac teaches us anything. A true Tips and Deals forum would cut out 99% of any Mac tech support. How about making a Tip/Deal/Tech post subject line in bold so as to stand out? The poster would check a box that makes the SL bold. Those who abused the feature would be permanently banned, and their mouse hand would be beaten with a hammer, Mags' Style. Same with people who made dumbass subject lines like Japan bombs China. The simple truth of the matter is that we can't all get along. And never will.

I agree whole-heartedly. Fully half of the threads are neither tips nor deals. Far fewer are Mac or computer-related.
When this place first started, I'd spend an hour here daily, Now I might spend 10-15 minutes each day. It no longer resembles a technical forum but gathering place for coffee-klatches(sp?) where any digital talk happens by accident. Those that want to tell me about the door hitting me in ..., get in line, and be polite.

I like the two forum set-up we have now, and I like a mix of topics.
I think tech products have gotten more user friendly, over the years, so we probably have fewer tech questions. If people want to make this a more tech centric forum, all they have to do is post more tech threads. ![]() Whippet, Whippet Good

There's some irony in the fact that this never was a technical forum and any tech talk originally happened by accident. The accidents occurred more frequently, but "accidentally" nonetheless. There are plenty of tech-only, tech oriented forums around. But being strictly tech has it's down side. Try hanging out at the Apple Insider forums. It gets pretty sad, fairly often. But it all tech, all the time. dealchat still has a tech-centric forum. I like a mix, a little more than less, but some get pretty sloppy with their coffee habits. As I said before, the ability to truncate whole threads would make me very happy.

Perhaps the deal is there are less Newbies than ever, more veteran posters/experienced, even if we are not tech centric we are real and unreal eclectic and consistent in organic oblivion balanced by healthy conservative prejudice
![]() ![]() I love it here ~!~ Some families are dysfunctional, although that is so bourgeois ... We are what we are, a diverse mix of nearly normal and nearly nominal peeps. I bow to you all no runs no drips no errors errors errors Rudie

The reason we have such a large forum population is because the formula is just right. Change the formula and people will leave.
To paraphrase Scoop Nisker, "If you don't like the forums, go out and make some of your own".

Like others have said, subject lines that at least give you a hint about what the topic is about might be nice, although I'll admit I've probably been guilty of a cryptic title or two.
If there's a link in the thread, there should be at least some clue as to what you're going to see. I could care less what topics are posted here. If someone wants to tell us what the've just had for dinner, that's okay with me as long as I know it's going to be a thread about dinner from the thread title.

I don't think the forum requires any modifications (other than getting rid of a persistent troll on the other side). Sub-forums are a drag. I spend a lot less time here in general; that's the way forums go.
If there's a link in the thread, there should be at least some clue as to what you're going to see. This is about the worst problem - and it can only be solved by those guilty posters. I doubt they will but I can hope. I think we've reached a point where instead of using "OT" to indicate non-Mac stuff, one could start a thread with "MAC!"
