OOMA users, did OOMA change your TAX?

Saw this on Slick Deals

Really sucks. My tax structure went from $11 > $41.64a year. Isn't it interesting they JUST notified me before my rate increase. They probably are scattering these emails to prevent a shitstorm from SDers and other Ooma users alike.

It is our mission here at Ooma to save you lots of money every month by providing you free home phone service. As you know, your only obligation is to pay applicable taxes and fees. This notice is to alert you of a change in the taxes and fees Ooma charges starting Jun 19, 2011.

If true, it seems like those that pay $11.75/year woudl also have to pay $3.47/month. Still not a bad deal IMHO. I have an older device and I pay $0.00 and I didn't get any email yet. I am curious if anyone here got this announcement, and what plan/device you guys have.

Thanks

whatta whiner (the sd poster)

do they expect ooma to pay these fees for them? The message from ooma clearly states what the fees are for... these are gov't fees.

I agree. I think the OOMA deal is awesome, with or without tax.

According to Ooma's online calculator my tax would be $3.47 per month http://www3.ooma.com/tax_calculator.php

BTW space-time, how is your tax paid ? Is it a monthly/yearly debit or credit card payment ?

I pay NO tax. I got an older morel, OOMA Hub (core + scout). Those models had no tax. Then they cam with the CORE only that had the $11.75/year tax, then with the TELO which has 11.75/year and 3.47/month as far as I understand.

Again, I would not mind paying these taxes since I used to pay 30/month (with taxes and fees) to packet8 before I ported my number to OOMA.

Ever read a phone bill? Yes? You would realize that fees aren't taxes. They are costs the service provider incurs and then cheerfully pass on as fees.
