Please help me refresh my memory. Can I just download the 10.6.8 combo update…
#1
I wasn't happy with Safari 5.1 because of what happened to some of my often used applications. 1Password, for instance, became much harder to use, so I attempted to go back to Safari 5.0.5 by dragging the older version from my backup drive to my applications folder.

I had been "warned" that if I tried to revert by this method, webkit for Safari 5.1 would give me problems and it has. Sad

Looking at the questions about reverting back from Safari 5.1 on Apple's support forum, it seemed that a solution was to reinstall the 10.6.8 combo and Safari 5.0.5 with the proper webkit would be part of the update. Since I haven't done an update for a long time, other than by using "software update," I wondered if I just have to download the 10.6.8 update and open the download? Will it simply install over my present 10.6.8 system or do I have to do something else to make this work?

Thanks for your help with this! :oldfogey:

You're probably not going to be able to install the 10.6.8 update over the top and instead you'll have to install 10.6 again and then update to 10.6.8 but not Safari 5.1.

Hopefully others have better news for you.

Would it hurt anything to give it a try?

I agree with Lew, Gene: Best to complete a fresh install of 10.6 and update that.

Archive and Install would be a real help here, but I seem to remember that it wasn't an option for Snow Leopard...

Actually 10.6 is an archive and install by default. There's no "over the top" option anymore. Also it won't hurt to try just 10.6.8 because I'm pretty sure the OS won't even let you install it as it'll claim you already have 10.6.8 installed.

I kind of thought that. Sad

So, is there an direct method to reinstall Safari 5.0.5 without going all the way back to reinstalling 10.6 (would I have to first install 10.5 and then install 10.6 over it and finally update with the 10.6.8 combo updater?)

That seems overwhelming to me, plus I'm not sure where I put all my old install discs.

I think I'm doomed! :banghead:
