New discovery on iPhone: Pause and Wait feature
#1
(ignore this if you've known about this for years).

Today, I discovered that the iPhone has the ability to add a "Wait" and/or a "Pause" in any autodialed number.

Where this comes in handy is if you have any phone number you need to phone a voice prompt then asks for, for instance, another phone number or password.

Steps:
1. Add this number you call often to your Address Book as a separate contact.
2. When editing this contact’s phone number and you are ready to insert a pause, tap the +*# key at the lower left of the screen. This reveals a screen I heretofore hadn't seen (see image below).
3. To insert a pause, simply tap the “Pause” key that appears. After you tap this key, a comma will be inserted into the phone number to represent the 2-second pause and the keyboard will revert to the normal layout. (note: you may need to enter more than one 2-second pause, depending on the voice prompt.
4. To enter a wait, tap the Wait key. This will place a semi-colon into the phone number's string. The Wait button "waits" until you push the Dial button again.

I'm currently using this to set up checking my Voicemail on my 'new' 120-year old POTS phone lines at my office from my iPhone. It requires a string of the 800 phone number, a pause, my office's phone number, a pause, and then the password and pound sign.

New to me too... I'll bet you could use it to dial an extension?

Very cool!
