MAD... and TUMBLE... are sublime recordings. Don't think he ever drew from those wells again. Pity.

I'm glad to know when he was good. When I've occasionally seen an appearance of his on TV, I could not figure out what there was to like.

A lot of bands and performers can't figure out when to quit.
The Rolling Stones last album should have been Some Girls, or possibly Tattoo You.

It's their right to suck too and continue to ply their trade. My all-time favorite is Stevie Wonder, but he's been mostly irrelevant to me since around 1982 or so (he changed his singing key). He doesn't owe me anything though. He floored me from "Music of my Mind" through "Hotter than July." A stretch of raw awesomeness that causes my cup to continue to runneth over. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

These guys should all continue to do as they please - for themselves. If it ends up being marketable - fine. No one is forced to buy the music or listen to the radio. I personally like David Bowie from about 1995-2003 - made some great music totally unlike the stuff that made him famous. Probably left a lot of fans behind, but he picked me up.

1976 or so, a girl in school invited me to a EJ concert. I turned her down. Still sort of regret that.

Even "they" or "one" doesn't give all that much to the world, if you can do what you love, even if you're bad at it, so what. Rock on! Because one day, you won't be able to.
Even when Elton went KiKi Di and going from singer/song writer to performer, disappointed though I was, I still had Tumbleweed Connection and Madman. And particularly Madman played on better audio gear, sounds incredible. If you still love what you're doing, not being as good as you once were is not a reason to quit. Regardless of what somebody else thinks. |
