F/U Wife Dropped Macbook: Now What?
#11
I say - do exploratory surgery. Open that machine up and see about loose cables or visible damage. Odds are good it's just a simple fix.

Good luck on finding the problem. Yesterday I replaced the hard drive in my 2.2 C2D MacBook with a 120 GB hard drive from OWC. I ran Disk Utility which found the drive and formatted it, then I installed the OS and it is running just fine.

Could be the the SATA cable connector on the logic board got bumped loose from the fall or the cable got torn. There is a cable/connector that goes from the HD slot across the CD drive to a connector on the logic board.

I think at this point you would have to take the topcase off the computer to check and see. I would also check with a known good drive or test the new drive in another computer. Very slim chance the new drive arrived bad, but always cover your bases before you pay someone else to do it. Bad parts happen occasionally.

(hate to see advice from the guy that "does this for a living" not acknowledged, although it seems to be a MRF tradition.)
