Email address spoofing and spam
#1
A friend's contact list is getting is spam from her account. It's been happening for a few weeks now but it's only her contacts that are being spammed.

Is this just spoofing or is it something more?

She wants to change her address and shut down the current account anyway, but I told her that won't stop spoofed spam.

She's on a PC so I haven't dismissed the possibility of a virus of some nature.

So what say you?

Oh, and it's connected to her Facebook account.

And finally can one send mass email notifications from Gmail.

Most likely spoofing due to someone's Outlook contacts being farmed.
Somewhat less likely-- hacked account. I deal with these frequently on e-mail lists and have come to believe its usually a case of a password that's too easy to guess.
I typically send them at least one link like this one:
http://www.whatsmypass.com/the-top-500-w...f-all-time

Friend should change he PW before any other steps-- might not help, but can't hurt.

Thanks for the info.

I'll pass that on, especially about the password.
